The members of the IAMM (ÚAMM) at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering STU in Bratislava in cooperation with the Department of Steel and Timber Structures at the Faculty of Civil Engineering are performing the diagnostic testing and assessment of the Slovak National Uprising (SNP) Bridge operation efficiency after 50-years of traffic. The project represents a professional challenge for both groups of experts.
The Slovak National Uprising (SNP) Bridge was completed in 1972 as the second world's bridge suspended from steel cables as a cable-stayed bridge.
There is another unique bridge in Bratislava – Apollo Bridge - awarded the Opal Award 2006 as the only European structure that was presented and awarded that year. The remarkable work was built and rotated across the river from the Bratislava riverbank into its final position on a pillar over the river Danube in September 2004. A calotte bearing, around which the bridge was rotated, played a key role in this operation. Strength calculation of the component was also realized by the IAMM (ÚAMM) experts.
