The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering (FME) is one of the seven faculties of the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava (STU), the largest University of Technology in Slovakia. The Faculty is represented by the Dean and the executive body is the Dean's Office.
Studies are delivered though seven bachelor programmes of 3 years duration (leading to the Bachelor of Science degree, – BSc, (Bc. in Slovakia), and twelve 2-year graduate programs leading to the Master of Science degree – MSc or Engineer, (Ing. in Slovakia). The title acquired after successful completion of a master program in technology in Slovakia is "Engineer" (Ing.). This title is still applied in a number of European countries and is fully equivalent to an MSc.
We operate on a winter and summer semester system. Each semester last 12 weeks followed by a six week examination period. Based on the European Community Courses Credit Transfer System (ECTS) the total for each year of study corresponds to 60 credits. Each BSc and MSc program consists of relatively fixed curricula which are taken during specific semesters and years. A program is composed of obligatory and elective subjects. The portion of electives is highest in the final year of study. The minimum requirement for a Bachelor of Science degree is to gain 180 credits, and 120 credits for Master of Science (Engineer) respectively.
